The Director of multi award-winning Sheffield gastropub and hotel, The Cross Scythes, has revealed how a business associate of his is offering £10,000 as a donation for a charity event this month; provided Stuart and his team mates including soccer ace Chris Waddle, raise £10,000 themselves. Stuart Hitchman is looking to play 100 holes of golf in a day at Abbeydale Golf Course on 17 July to raise funds for Weston Park Hospital which provides cancer treatment services for patients across Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield.
In an attempt to raise the much needed funds for Weston Park, members of the public have been invited to lend their support on the day and bid to be a caddy for a hole, round or the whole day. Stuart was stunned at his business associate’s offer however.
“A business associate of mine who would rather remain anonymous has offered £10,000 to support me during this charity event,” said Stuart. We just have to raise £10,000 and he will double it! “I’m absolutely astounded at this extremely generous offer and grateful to the donor in question. It’s an extremely worthwhile cause and I know Weston Park Hospital will be grateful for any donation but one this size will help immeasurably.“
“I urge everyone to help out as much as they can to help us reach the £10,000 mark,” said Stuart. “The initial donation is extremely helpful so for it to be potentially be double would be staggering.“
Seven other golfers will be joining Stuart in the event, including ex-Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle, Spurs and Marseille winger and local, Chris Waddle. Those playing are also seeking sponsorship to ensure as much money as possible is raised for the charity, which is one of only four dedicated cancer hospitals in England; and with 7,000 new patients being referred to the hospital every year, as much help as possible needs to be given to ensure the hospital can continue the invaluable work it does.
